Reading Natural Variation in Jade

Color, clouding, grain, inclusions, and translucency are not surface decoration. They are the visual record of an individual material.

Natural jade does not repeat itself. Tone may gather in one passage and soften in another. Clouding, grain, inclusions, and translucency change as the work moves between direct, ambient, and transmitted light.

Begin with what is visible

Photographs can describe color distribution, contour, polish, and obvious internal structure. Macro and transmitted-light views may reveal more, but no single image replaces the experience of the actual work.

Keep claims specific

A sample certificate explains a process only. Material classification belongs to the selected piece and is supported by individual gemological testing before dispatch.

Choose character, not uniformity

For a collector, variation is not an obstacle to selection. It is the reason one work can feel more personal than another.
